Shuttleworth, the mansion and gardens which hosts a collection of vintage vehicles and aircraft, has announced the acquisition of a special 1905 Wolseley ‘Baby’ X-type 5hp two-seater Phaeton.

Once belonging to Dorothy Shuttleworth, the X22 vehicle is considered one of the rarest of all surviving Wolseley light cars. First purchased by the Shuttleworth family around 1929 from Earls Colne, Essex, the X22 subsequently took part in the final Brooklands veteran motor race prior to the outbreak of the war in 1939, where it achieved a fastest lap of 22.71mph. In the 1970s, the vehicle was restored, and today the X22 is believed to be one of the only two surviving models of the ‘Baby’ X-type.

This summer, Shuttleworth also hosts its Festival of Flight air show on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June. In addition to the participation of Shuttleworth’s own vintage aircraft, the Red Arrows are also scheduled to attend. Along with thrilling aerobatic performances, Festival of Flight also offers visitors a free funfair, a vintage vehicle parade and bus rides, tours of the stunning Victorian mansion, plus a 9-acre Regency Garden to explore.
