UNESCO World Heritage Site Canterbury Cathedral has new tours and group experiences lined up for 2022, along with new catering options and self-guided visits.
To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee year, Canterbury Cathedral is launching a special guided tour which is bookable for groups, telling stories of royals through the ages. On this private guided tour, groups can discover monarchs immortalised in stone, wood and stained glass which adorn the Cathedral’s walls, including special statues of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip which were unveiled in 2015.
Also available is a new guided tour of all three places that make up Canterbury’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. This tour, lasting over five hours, covers St Augustine’s Abbey, St Martin’s Church and Canterbury Cathedral and includes light refreshments to provide a truly memorable experience.
In 2021 new dating techniques established that some stained-glass windows at Canterbury Cathedral are among the oldest in the world, and a new guided tour is available to offer an introduction to the history and range of stained glass found at the Cathedral, covering windows from medieval to modern.
You can also combine any tour or visit with new catering or cream tea options, offered for groups sized between 15-40, with larger group catering or more bespoke options available in the Cathedral Lodge. Also new for 2022 are two options for groups wanting a self-guided visit, with a new downloadable tour app and multi-media guides about to be introduced.
All group visits must be pre-booked and are subject to entrance charges with additional costs for tours, catering and guides.
