Discover Durham is presenting outdoor attractions for groups this spring and summer, from hidden gardens in the heart of the city, to group-friendly outdoor attractions and countryside parks.
In Durham City, visitors can stroll along the city’s riverbanks and see Durham Castle and Cathedral, as well as Durham University Botanic Garden. Groups can also visit characterful gardens at the National Trust’s Crook Hall Gardens.
Nearby, groups are welcomed to enjoy the elegantly landscaped grounds of The Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle. Meanwhile, the Rising at Raby Castle is due to open late spring and will include a stunning reimagined 5-acre walled garden, including the estate’s well-known yew hedges. The regeneration of Auckland Castle also continues as three new gardens will open from June 2024, including a Wilderness Garden, Faith Garden, and striking new glass house in the historic Walled Garden.
In the dramatic Durham Dales and North Pennines National Landscape, active groups can find the High Force Waterfall, as well as a variety of walking routes.
