The Palace of Holyroodhouse is presenting the exhibition Style & Society: Dressing the Georgians.

The display charts the Georgians’ style story with paintings, prints, and drawings by artists including Gainsborough, Zoffany, and Hogarth, as well as luxurious textiles, sparkling jewellery, and a range of accessories from snuff boxes to swords.

The exhibition reveals how the Georgians ushered in many of the cultural trends we know today, including the first stylists and influencers, the birth of a specialised fashion press, and the development of shopping as a leisure activity.

The exhibition is taking place in The King’s Gallery, formerly The Queen’s Gallery, and is the first exhibition to be held at The King’s Gallery following its 18-month closure.

The exhibition is open every Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday until Sunday 22 Sept 2024, with group rates available for 15-plus.

Groups can also visit The King’s Gallery for a private talk and viewing as part of an exclusive after-hours event.
