Kynren, the dramatic live performance that takes a trip through Britain’s history, is set to include a rare breed of horse as a new cast member.
Knutsford Cosmopolitan, a majestic grey shire horse known as Cosmo to his friends, has been welcomed at 11Arches, the organisation behind Kynren, as he joins the equine team. Cosmo is a rare breed, listed as at-risk with less than 200 left in the world.
Kynren is performed by a 1,000-strong volunteer cast and crew on a 7.5-acre stage in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, and runs every Saturday night from 27 July to 14 September.
Standing at over 18.3 hands, the equivalent of 1.86m measured from floor to shoulders, Cosmo is being looked after by the event’s dedicated cavalry team. Cosmo will shortly begin training to become one of the main carriage driving horses in the show.
For 2024, Kynren’s pre-show entertainment experience, the Viking Village, is also returning. Audience-goers will have the opportunity to wander through the authentic recreation of a traditional ninth-century Viking settlement. The Viking Village is included in the price of the Kynren ticket.
