CTA member Helmsley Walled Garden offers a treat if you love beautiful gardens and enjoy a stroll through gorgeous, herbaceous borders or themed feature gardens.

Based in the North York Moors National Park, in the bustling market town of Helmsley, the Walled Garden a beautifully planted and fully accessible garden. Its 100m double herbaceous borders hit their peak in August but there is always something to see from apple blossom in April, tulips, irises and the Laburnum Arch in May, through to apple harvest starting in August and on to the autumn glow of the Hot Border in October and an Apple Weekend celebrating the nation’s favourite fruit.

Smaller, intimate gardens provide plenty of places to sit and enjoy views of Helmsley Castle. And visitors can discover delicious varieties of vegetables growing in the Kitchen Garden or see herbs used by medieval monks for medicine in the Physic Garden. There is also a chance to explore a collection of more than 100 different apple varieties, or walk in the Clematis Garden, the Iris Border or the Cutting Garden.

The Vine House Café provides delicious drinks, cakes, light snacks and lunches, and a plant centre stocks a range of plants, many of which are grown on site, while the Garden Shop sells beautiful gifts made in Yorkshire.

Helmsley Walled Garden welcomes groups of 15 or more. Rates are £8 per person for entrance only. Entrance and a guided tour costs £12 per person.
