Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026, the world’s biggest celebration of Irish music, is being staged in Belfast for the first time, taking place 2-9 August.

The Festival of Music of Ireland is an eight-day event where musicians, dancers, and performers from across the globe will converge on Belfast for a celebration of traditional music.

Audiences can expect street performances, intimate concerts, big name acts, and more than 180 competitions showcasing the best of traditional talent. Meanwhile, the festival’s outdoor Gig Rig will host free live performances against the backdrop of Belfast City Hall. From instrument-making to céilí dancing, there are many ways visitors can get involved.

More than music, the event is staged as a cultural and creative get-together, which will be reflected in the event’s opening. The ‘Sharing Traditions’ showcase will present the festival’s ambition to celebrate together by fusing traditional Irish music with Dhol drummers, Indian dancers, flute and pipe bands and Highland dancers.
