The Bowes Museum near Barnard Castle, County Durham, focussing on art and set within 22 acres of landscaped parkland, has joined the CTA.

The museum includes a world-class collection of over 58,000 objects, with highlights including works by renowned masters such as Goya, Canaletto, and Van Dyck. Among its treasures is the Silver Swan, an 18th-century automaton with lifelike movements.

Alongside famous artworks, the museum also houses works on fashion and design. Staging temporary exhibitions, at present The Bowes Museum is hosting Vivienne Westwood: Rebel – Storyteller – Visionary, taking place until 6 September. The exhibition charts Westwood’s journey following the energy of punk from her early partnership with Malcolm McLaren, to her reinvention of historical dress and couture in the 1980s and ’90s.

The Bowes Museum itself is built in the style of a French château and is set within 22 acres of landscaped parkland and woodland that can be enjoyed as part of a visit. Meanwhile, Café Bowes serves lunches and light refreshments.

Group experiences are offered for 12 or more visitors, with the group organiser and driver receiving complimentary admission, and free on-site coach parking is available.

The museum is fully accessible with a level entrance and lift to all floors. The Bowes Museum also provides itinerary planning, including partner attractions and accommodation, helping organisers create a memorable visit.
