The Dundee Heritage Trust has joined the CTA, presenting the attractions Discovery Point and RRS Discovery, as well as the industrial heritage Verdant Works Museum.
Discovery Point explores the pioneering Royal Research Ship Discovery and uncovers the stories of her past, from her origins in the shipyards of Dundee including the Antarctic expedition under Captain Scott.
Visitors can board the RRS Discovery and walk through many of its historic spaces, including the decks, bridge, crew quarters, officers’ cabins, wardroom, scientific work areas, and engineering spaces, giving a sense of how 38 men lived and worked during years in Antarctica.
Visitors can also see a highly detailed 3D model of the Endurance shipwreck, revealing details down to the grain of the timbers and the scattered artefacts on the seabed.
Alongside Discovery Point, the Verdant Works Museum presents the tale of Dundee’s industrial heritage. In the refurbished Mill building, visitors can hear stories of the city’s mill workers in the industry of jute production – a key textile of its day, integral to Dundee’s past. Visitors can see the machines at work in demonstrations that bring industrial processes to life, as well as learning more about the city’s social history including the lives of its working people.
Group rates are offered for 15-people plus. Free coach parking is available at both venues, though spaces cannot be booked and is available on a first-come-first-served basis.
