The Competition and Markets Authority has made a statement today (30 April) that should be noted by tour operators. The CMA has responded to what it claims is an increasing number of complaints regarding cancellations and refunds. The CMA says: “4 out of 5 complaints being received into the Taskforce so far include concerns about businesses refusing refunds or firms pressuring people to accept vouchers for holiday accommodation, which can only be used during a more expensive period”.

The CMA statement follows its launch earlier this month of an online system enabling consumers to report businesses they believed were behaving unfairly during the COVID-19 crisis.

The statement makes it clear that the CMA is prepared to take enforcement action against businesses if it finds evidence that they are not complying with the law.
