While Scottish Government travel restrictions are still in place, CalMac Ferries reports that it continues to have restrictions on the number of coaches and passengers on each of its vessels due to social distancing.
CalMac has been reviewing the capacity on services and now advises that a total of 35 passengers (including driver and guide) can now be accommodated across the network apart from:
· Wemyss – Bay Rothesay
· Berneray – Leverburgh
· Oban – Craignure (MV Coruisk)
This is due to a Maritime and Coastguard Agency exemption which currently permits passengers to remain in their vehicles on the car deck during the crossing. While CalMac can have passengers in their vehicles on the car deck there is a legal limit of passenger numbers it must adhere to.
The CalMac Travel Trade team has been receiving feedback from colleagues, customers and communities about this, and continue to review the numbers in line with this feedback.
Here is a summary of the various routes, with coach numbers and maximum passengers to help operators understand the capacity throughout the network.
