This summer, groups are being offered after-hours access for guided tours to the medieval Duke Humfrey’s library at Oxford’s famous Bodleian Library. Tour guides will also guide groups through underground tunnels and reading rooms, into the iconic Oxford landmark, the Radcliffe Camera.
Until 1 June, groups have priority booking before sales open to the public, with available dates every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 2 July – 12 September. From £280 per tour, two tours take place at 17:15 – 18:15, and a further two tours at 18:30 – 19:30, with 14 people per tour.
The Bodleian also partners with the Oxford Guild of Tour Guides for visits to the city of dreaming spires. Taking place daily, £160 per two-hour tour caters for 19 people, and multiple tours can take place to accommodate larger groups.
The Bodleian Libraries has also announced the launch of Write, Cut, Rewrite, a new exhibition that focuses on the creative importance of revision in literature. Write, Cut, Rewrite delves into the editing, cutting and creative undoing of some of the world’s most celebrated authors, revealing little-known literary treasures.
Highlights include discarded ideas, fundamental changes, deletions, additions, notes, and scribbles from great authors such as Mary and Percy Shelley, Jane Austen, James Joyce, Raymond Chandler, Ian Fleming, Samuel Beckett, and John le Carré.
