Les Halles d’Amiens, the covered market in the heart of Amiens, is offering groups the chance to explore French gastronomy through a choice of food workshops and tastings.
Located close to Amiens Cathedral and the historic Saint-Leu district, the market provides a convenient addition to coach itineraries with experiences available for groups up to 15 people.
Following redevelopment, Les Halles combines a traditional market with a food court featuring 24 food outlets, including independent shops, caterers and restaurants. Local producers and specialist traders showcase regional produce, while the Biltoki café provides a place to relax and enjoy the market’s atmosphere.
At Chez Granny, visitors can learn to prepare Ficelle Picarde, one of Amiens’ best-known specialities. The savoury crêpe is filled with ham and mushrooms and finished with a creamy sauce, offering a hands-on introduction to local cuisine.
Martigny et Fils wine shop offers one-hour guided sessions exploring French wines or locally produced spirits. Cheese lovers can also sample a selection of French cheeses chosen by Planchon, an established Amiens cheesemonger, while learning about their different flavours and characteristics.
Amiens is around a two-hour drive from Calais and offers attractions throughout the year. Its Christmas market draws visitors during the winter, while spring and summer are ideal for exploring the Hortillonnages, a remarkable network of floating gardens. The city also provides a convenient base for groups visiting the Somme battlefields and First World War sites.
