Visitors to St Mary’s Guildhall Coventry can now enjoy a falconry demonstration as part of an enhanced group travel experience.

St Mary’s Guildhall, set in Coventry’s Cathedral Quarter, is combining guided tours with a live falconry experience that explores use of birds of prey during Tudor times.

Available Wednesday to Saturday when booked alongside a standard group tour, the falconry experience is led by an expert falconer and includes a historical talk and up-close encounters with majestic birds such as kestrels and owls.

Guided tours last around an hour and start from £15 per person, and the additional birds of prey experience starts at £100 per group.

Across its 700-year history, St Mary’s Guildhall has played host to monarchs including Henry VI and Mary Queen of Scots, as well as housing the crown jewels and surviving the 1940 Blitz, which virtually destroyed the adjacent cathedral.

Guests can explore the Guildhall’s recently restored medieval kitchen, step into the Great Hall which houses the 500-year-old Coventry Tapestry, the oldest still in situ in Britain, and enjoy afternoon tea in the atmospheric undercroft.

Abi Moore, Heritage and Venue Manager at St Mary’s Guildhall, said: “Our falconry experience is a really engaging way to bring history to life for groups. Birds of prey played a prominent role in Tudor culture, and there’s something unforgettable about seeing them up close in the grandeur of a venue that was once at the centre of royal affairs. This is a unique opportunity to combine learning with wonder in one of the Midlands’ most remarkable heritage settings.”
