Peter Plisner, Conference MC
Peter Plisner is a transport and media specialist and has previously worked in broadcasting for both the BBC and a variety of independent companies. Peter has been a journalist for more than 40 years and has specialised in transport for much of that time. His broadcasting career started in independent local radio and later he worked for a variety of national channels.
He was a Financial Correspondent for Independent Radio News and Correspondent for the BBC, specialising in transport and later, business coverage. Peter has worked across all media platforms including radio, tv and online services and has also studied transport issues gaining an MSc distinction in transport planning. He left the BBC, after nearly 30 years, in 2020 to set up a consultancy business, Clever Conclusions. It provides a variety of services related to transport and the media, including media training courses, stakeholder engagement, PR and video production.
Anthea Turner, Guest Speaker
Anthea Turner has certainly earned her ‘National Treasure’ status throughout a diverse and busy 35-year career. The TV Presenter has been in the media spotlight for nearly four decades presenting popular shows including GMTV, Blue Peter, The National Lottery and Perfect Housewife. Anthea was the main host of Wish You Were Here between 1996 and 1999 and visited nearly 70 destinations in that time! And she retains an involvement in tourism with Silver Travel. She cemented her legendary status by being honoured to receive the prestigious invitation to be a part of the late Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Procession.
Her career in television began as a Video Jock on Sky in 1986 following a stint in local radio alongside Bruno Brookes. She then progressed to Saturday morning television with UP2U, Live from BBC Manchester, Top Of The Pops, Anything Goes and a whole host of other appearances, until in 1992 Anthea became the 19th presenter of the award-winning BBC1 flagship children’s programme, ‘Blue Peter’. During her two years with the show, she launched the most successful ‘homemade make’ in the history of ‘Blue Peter’ with an excess of 100,000 viewers writing in for details of how to make ‘Tracy Island’ from Thunderbirds.
