Saturday 9 May  – Pre- Event Individual FAM Visits

Delegates travelling to Cardiff by car may wish to take advantage of two optional individual FAM visits arranged by Southern Wales Tourism

Tredegar House (National Trust)

One of the most significant late-17th-century houses in the British Isles, Tredegar House is set within 90 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland in Newport. The striking red-brick mansion was home for over 500 years to the Morgan family, later Lords Tredegar, one of the most influential families in Welsh history.

Visitors can explore the historic house, gardens and parkland and learn about the estate’s remarkable heritage.

Located near M4 Junction 28, signposted from the M4 and A48.

Caerphilly Castle (Cadw)

Castle Street, Caerphilly CF83 1JD

Recently reopened following a major conservation project, Caerphilly Castle is the largest castle in Wales and the second largest in Britain after Windsor Castle. Built in the 13th century by Norman lord Gilbert de Clare, the castle is a remarkable example of medieval military architecture, surrounded by extensive water defences.

Visitors can explore the towers, bridges and inner courtyard, including the famous leaning south-east tower.

Short- and long-stay pay-and-display car parks are located nearby.

The National Museum Cardiff

National Museum Cardiff houses Wales’ national art collections, including one of the finest Impressionist collections in Britain, alongside works by artists such as Monet, Rodin and Van Gogh. The museum also features natural history and science galleries, including dinosaur fossils, meteorites and a humpback whale skeleton.

Museum of Cardiff

Located in the historic Old Library building in the city centre, the Museum of Cardiff tells the story of the city through the experiences of its people — from a small medieval market town to the vibrant capital of Wales today.

Sun 10 May FAM Trip – Cardiff Discovery Day

Delegates arriving on Saturday are invited to join a guided morning walking FAM trip with local expert Steve Griffin. The tour starts at 9.30 from the Majestic Hotel Cardiff and it includes:

  • Cardiff Castle: Discover one of Cardiff’s most iconic landmarks, set in the heart of the city. Behind its fairytale towers lies 2,000 years of history and an extraordinary, richly decorated interior.
  • Cardiff’s Victorian & Edwardian Arcades: Walk back through Cardiff’s famous shopping arcades—glass‑covered passageways home to independent boutiques, cafés, and heritage retailers. Known as the City of Arcades, Cardiff offers a uniquely atmospheric retail and leisure experience.

In the afternoon, all delegates are welcome to join a coach‑based FAM trip departing from the Majestic Hotel Cardiff. The coach leaves the Majestic Hotel Cardiff at 13.00 and the programme includes:

  • Hensol Castle Distillery: A standout craft‑spirit destination set within a 17th‑century castle. The visit includes a gin‑tasting experience and insight into the distillery’s production, heritage, and visitor offer.
  • Cardiff Bay: A scenic drive through the city’s revitalised waterfront district—once a global centre for coal export and now a vibrant hub for culture, leisure, and entertainment.
