New CTA member, Innsbruck’s Nordkettenbahnen cable car, is inviting coach groups to experience the spectacular journey, travelling from the city centre to Austria’s largest nature park in just a few minutes.

The cable car presents a breathtaking 360° view, with the capital of the Alps on one side and the Karwendel Nature Park on the other, climbing to a height of 2,256m. The name Nordkette means North Chain, referring to the peaks that ring the north of Innsbruck, and thanks to the cable car, spectacular views from high up are available to all ages and abilities.

The journey begins in Innsbruck’s centre, just a few minutes’ walk from the old town where the modern Hungerburgbahn funicular railway takes travellers on the first leg of the route to the Hungerberg. Rising up to 860m altitude, the funicular reaches its destination in just eight minutes. En route, guests can alight at the Alpenzoo, a great setting to see Alpine wildlife, including wolves and birds of prey.

From the Hungerburg, the Nordkettenbahnen cable car takes over, transporting passengers to an altitude of 1,905m to Seegrube, giving spectacular views, plus the comfort of a restaurant. From there, The Hafelakarbahn carries guests to the Top of Innsbruck, where the summit of the mountain, the Hafelekar, at a height of 2,334m, can be reached on foot. For the adventurous, various trails lead from here, and there’s also a further restaurant where guests can absorb the majestic scenery.

Various group dining packages are available – find out more here – while coach operators can plan their trip by contacting Nordkettenbahnen’s Christian Mair at c.mair@nordkette.com. You can also access general information online here.
