CTA member Coldharbour Mill in Uffculme is continuing its Culm Valley Rural Skills Training Programme which creates opportunities for people in the community to gain new skills and will, in turn help to regenerate part of the Coldharbour Mill Estate.

The scheme encourages those who are unemployed or inactive and are looking to acquire new skills and offers opportunities for training and experiences to provide a solid foundation for those who wish to progress into further education, training, employment or volunteering. Participants can gain certificates such as First Aid, Brush Cutter, Hedge laying, Wildlife awareness and law training, Tree and plant ID and Dry-Stone Walling Certification.

The participants will also help to develop and enhance the gardens, estate, waterways, wildlife, and plant life at Coldharbour Mill which aims to become a resource for community and special interest groups.

Martin Halse, Coldharbour Mill chief executive, says: “This is an exciting opportunity to give back more to our local community. We proved in 2021 that our courses provide skills which participants can take on into employed jobs which a number of last year’s participants did.

“This year’s funding has extended the reach of the programme to combat isolation alongside those who are looking to acquire new skills so hope we can help more people to take a step towards employment and help reduce the impact of isolation and inactivity. We are also pleased that we can push on with our plans to enhance the wildlife and biodiversity of the estate.”
