VisitScotland is presenting a run-down of events taking place in autumn and winter including classic events plus new attractions to generate new product ideas for operators.

The line-up of events includes The Scottish International Storytelling Festival, between 21-31 October, taking place across Edinburgh. The festival is one of the largest of its kind in the world from a programming and participation perspective, including a wealth of cultures, traditions and styles.

November sees St Andrew’s Day, and St Andrews itself hosts its large street party on Saturday 28 November with The Big Hoolie, featuring parades, fireworks and ceilidhs, while on 30 November the Dundee Hooley includes street theatre and live music.

From 21 November to 4 January, the UK’s largest annual projection show, Castle of Light, takes place at Edinburgh Castle. Inspired by fire and ice, visitors will encounter mythical creatures from a dragon soaring over the ramparts, to the Ice Queen herself in the Great Hall.

Scotland’s capital city is also famed for its Christmas Market, offering classic entertainment including fairground rides, ice rinks, and artisan gifts, with stallholders assembling and festive activities taking place from mid-November to early January.

Meanwhile, in Aberdeen, from 5-8 February 2027, the SPECTRA festival focuses on light, art and creativity with light installations creating architectural illusions across the city.
