Following the latest national lockdown in England, CTA member Roadmark Travel took a tour to Dunster with a group from Horsham and the surrounding area of West Sussex to the Yarn Market Hotel of Dunster in Exmoor.

Antony Brunt, proprietor of the Yarn Market Hotel, says “We believe it is much safer for us to welcome a known group that all come from a tier 2 area rather than fill the hotel with individual guests who have booked through one of the online agents such as Booking.com and might come from anywhere in England. We often have no way of identifying such people as the online travel agents do not always release their address.”

Dunster is a small village on the edge of Exmoor with a castle (now owned by the National Trust) a working water mill, a large tithe barn, dovecot and packhorse bridge. Several properties behind the cobbled pavements date back to the 12th century.

Mark Anderson, Roadmark Travel, says “We are a small coach company offering a quality service and have many regular customers so most of those travelling to Dunster are already known to us. The highlight of this tour was originally to visit Dunster By Candlelight, but plans had to change to align with the Covid regulations.

“I know the Yarn Market Hotel from past visits and they have been totally supportive in helping us cope with the many changes brought about by the virus.”

Antony Brunt adds: “It is unfortunate that Dunster By Candlelight had to be cancelled as it would have been impossible to impose social distancing on the many thousands of visitors that come for this annual event.  However, we have worked hard to provide a Covid-safe environment for the Roadmark guests.
