Salisbury Cathedral has introduced the following measures for the benefit of visitors and staff:
- a cleaning regime ensuring all surfaces, door handles and touch screens are regularly cleansed with antibacterial products
- signage carrying government advice on hygiene – Catch it, Bin it, Kill it – in prominent areas, with bins made available for this purpose
- antibacterial hand cleaner in all public areas in the Cathedral for visitors’ use.
The cathedral is requesting that:
- all groups pre-book, indicating which company they are travelling with and their country of origin, and only the group leader approaches the Welcome Desk, leaving their group to wait outside.
- For Cathedral Floor and Chapter House visits, static guiding will replace guided tours. Cathedral guides will be placed at strategic points where visitors may can approach them for information
- Self-guided leaflets will be put to one side for booked groups, to be collected on arrival. This minimises leaflet handling, and guides will maintain the recommended one-metre distance from visitors. Chaplains are still available but have been briefed on the appropriate protocols.
All specialist tours have been suspended for the time being
